Latin Grammy Winners To Get Awards
OCTOBER 30, 2001
Winners of the Second Annual Latin Grammy Awards - canceled after the September 11 attacks - will finally receive their honors at the Conga Room, a Latin-themed Los Angeles nightclub, next week. The awards will be handed out Tuesday morning in what is being described as a "star-studded press conference." An awards ceremony had been scheduled for September 11th in Los Angeles but was cancelled due to the terror attacks that day. The Latin Recording Academy is planning a live, exclusive video stream of next Tuesday's event which will be available on the official Latin Grammy Awards Webcast site (http://latingrammy.yahoo.com).
The Latin Grammys had already been moved from Miami due to planned protests by Cuban exiles who objected to the recognition of musicians from the communist island. See complete story above (September 11, 2001).

PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS
NOVEMBER 4, 2001 ~ on CBS
The 53rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, originally scheduled for September 16, 2001, were to take place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday, October 7th. Because of U.S. actions in Afghanistan, the show was once again postponed. Out of respect for the September 11th tragedy, the celebratory elements of the show were toned down and, possibly for security reasons, there was to be no parade
of red-carpet celebrity arrivals. A statement from ATAS and CBS advised that traditionally, the Emmys are a tribute to the television industry, however on the new night the industry planned to join together with the nation to re-affirm the spirit of the American people.
Ellen DeGeneres, who co-hosted the Emmy Awards with Patricia Richardson in 1994, was selected to host this years show, which finally took place at the Shubert Theater in Century City on November 4th. The 2001 Emmy Awards honored programs broadcast during the eligibility period of June 1, 2000 through May 31, 2001. Presenters included Jessica Alba, Amy Brenneman, Lorraine Bracco, Edie Falco, Calista Flockhart, Jennifer Garner, Lauren Graham, Kelsey Grammer, Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Martin Sheen, Martin Short, and Sela Ward. E! Entertainment Television provided four hours of pre-show coverage, including the Joan and Melissa Rivers red carpet routine, a hopeful sign America is adapting to our new lifestyle while holding on to some pre 9-11 traditions.
Visit Tom O'Neill's GoldDerby.com for great information about the Emmy Awards, including the pundits predictions. Go to the official site of the Emmy Awards for the complete list of nominees and winners of both the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Creative Arts Awards.
