AUGUST 2: 5th ANNUAL TEEN CHOICE AWARDS
The 2003 Teen Choice Awards were held Saturday, August 2nd, at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. David Spade was the first-ever host of the TCA's. Kelly Clarkson, Evanescence, the Donnas, and Verne Troyer (as "5 Cent") performed. Presenters included Alexa Vega, Alexis Bledel, Alyssa Milano, Amanda Bynes, Amy Davidson, Ashton Kutcher, Brittany Murphy, Britney Spears, Colin Farrell, Dakota Fanning, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Emily Van Camp, Gregory Smith, Hilary Duff, Jaime Kennedy, Jaime Lee Curtis, Jared Padalecki, Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson, Jillian Barbarie, Jimmy Kimmel, John Ritter, Justin Guarini, Kelly Cuoco, Kelly Slater, Lindsay Lohan, LL Cool J, Milo Ventimiglia, Paula Abdul, Raven, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Ryan Seacrest, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Tara Reid, Tom Green, Tony Hawk, Tyrese, Wanda Sykes and Wilmer Valderrama. The show aired on FOX Wednesday, August 6.


Awards were given in 56 categories spanning television, film, music and sports. Nominations were announced June 17. Jennifer Lopez grabbed a dozen "Choice" noms, including Movie Actress, Music Female Artist, Female Hottie, Choice Liar and Female Fashion Icon. Eminem followed close behind with seven nods including Choice Movie Actor and Choice Album. AUGUST 23: 9th ANNUAL SOUL TRAIN LADY OF SOUL AWARDS
The Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards were broadcast live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Saturday, August 23, 2003. Aisha Tyler, Arsenio Hall, Heather Headley, and Tyrese co-hosted the event, which is designed "to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of female recording artists, exclusively, and is the only award show concept of its kind, currently, in existence."

Nominations were announced July 17. Floetry earned top honors with four nominations, followed by Erykah Badu, Heather Headley and Vivian Green, who each earned three noms. The Lena Horne Award For Outstanding Career Achievements was presented to Vivica A. Fox and the Aretha Franklin Award for Entertainer of the Year went to Erykah Badu.

AUGUST 28: 20th ANNUAL MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS
Chris Rock returns to host the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards on August 28 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The comedian/actor previously hosted the kudocast in 1997 and 1999.
Christina Aguilera and Coldplay are the first announced performers.

Nominations were announced July 24. Missy Elliott leads the way with eight nods for her "Work It" video, including Video of the Year, Best Female Video, Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Direction in a Video. Justin Timberlake scored seven nods for his "Cry Me a River" and "Rock Your Body." They are followed by VMA's unlikely hero, country legend Johnny Cash. Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" got nominated in six categories, including Video of the Year, Best Male Video and Best Direction in a Video. Eminem and 50 Cent each got five. Coldplay, Good Charlotte, Kelly Clarkson, Sean Paul, Floetry, Mya, No Doubt, Sum 41, Kenna, Evanescence and Avril Lavigne also earned multiple nominations.

SEPTEMBER 03: 4th ANNUAL LATIN GRAMMY AWARDS ~ 9:00 p.m. on CBS

The 2003 Latin Grammy Awards were held at American Airlines Arena on September 3 and broadcast domestically by the CBS Television Network. The event was hosted by comedian
George Lopez. Nominations were announced July 22, 2003.

Latin Grammy performers included Bacilos, David Bisbal, Juanes with the Black Eyed Peas, Ricky Martin, Molotov, Alexandre Pires with Kelly Clarkson, Banda El Recodo with A.B. Quintanilla III and the Kumbia Kings, Thalía, and Tribalistas. In addition, Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan, Olga Tañón, India, Victor Manuelle, Arturo Sandoval, El General, and members of the groundbreaking salsa act the Fania All-Stars: Willie Colón, Oscar D’León, Johnny Pacheco and Roberto Roena assembled to perform a tribute to the late Celia Cruz, the "Queen of Salsa" who passed away July 17th.

This year's presenters included
Jessica Alba, JC Chasez, Willy Chirino, Natalie Cole, Jamie-Lynn (Sigler) DiScala, Howie Dorough, José Feliciano, Emerson Fittipaldi, Daisy Fuentes, Juan Luis Guerra, Julio Iglesias Jr., Natalia Lafourcade, Daniela Mercury, Pablo Montero, Esai Morales, Edward James Olmos, Carlos Ponce, Pat Riley, Adam Rodriguez, Roselyn Sanchez, Soraya, Tyrese, Amelia Vega, and Sofia Vergara.

SEPTEMBER 13 : 55TH ANNUAL CREATIVE ARTS EMMY AWARDS
The cast of MADtv, Fox's Emmy-nominated sketch comedy series, will host the 2003 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards at the Shrine Auditorium.


SEPTEMBER 21: 55th ANNUAL PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS ~ 8:00 p.m. on FOX
Nominations for the 2003 Primetime Emmy Awards were announced Thursday, July 17, 2003. Academy Chairman Bryce Zabel, Malcolm in the Middle's Jane Kaczmarek, and The Shield's Michael Chiklis (last year's Best Actor in a Drama Series) made the announcements at a brief press conference held to announce nominees in the top ten categories. Both stars also earned noms in this year's competition (Kaczmarek's fourth and Chiklis' second).

The Primetime Emmys will be held at the Shrine Auditorium. Breaking from tradition, this year's show will be anchored by a triple triumvirate of comedians: first time hosts Brad Garrett, Darrell Hammond, George Lopez, Jon Stewart, Martin Short, and Wanda Sykes and previous hosts Conan O'Brien (2002),
Ellen DeGeneres (2001), and Garry Shandling (2000). Confirmed presenters include nominees Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm In the Middle); nominees Debra Messing and Eric McCormack (Will and Grace); nominees Edie Falco and James Gandolfini (The Sopranos); and nominee Marg Helgenberger and William Petersen (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) (note: the list will grow as the date draws near, last year's show included 47 presenters!).
